It’s not how much we experience, but how we use those experiences today that matters ~ Reed

Its so easy to forget what we have learned: to take something valuable forward, from our past into our future.  Most are consumed with just the act itself, rushing from experience to experience without ever savoring the moment – without ever seeing their worth.

RQOD_06152013- William Osler: The value of experience is not in seeing much, but in seeing wisley.

Our experiences benefit us most when we take the time to give them meaning; carrying what they teach us forward, enhancing those experiences yet to come.

Our true perception of self lies not in what we have accomplished; but in what we thought we should have and gave up on ~ Reed

I’ve been off the grid for the last six months mired in stagnation and complacency.  Chained by thoughts of  “as soon as” and “tomorrow” – giving in to defeat for today.

RQOD_06142013_Chruchill:I am not sure I should have dared to start; but I am sure that I should not have dared to stop. - Winston Churchill

Mr. Churchill had it right when he said he “should not have dared to stop.”

Today I dare to continue on, marching forward to all my tomorrows with renewed determination to accomplish what I know can.

Finding personal meaning rather than blindly following a tradition leads to enlightenment ~ Reed

What we believe is as powerful as what we do.  Following blindly though can lead to consequences that in hindsight are hard to justify, especially when supporting groups or organizations  who’s influence encompass more than just one person and is based more on tradition than reason.

If you wish to master times flow, master patience ~ Reed.

Time is the one of the few constants that effect all of us.  Like a swift flowing river, easy to ride and a struggle to fight against. If you wish to master times flow, master patience.

RQOD 121112 Gospel Of Ramakrishna Quote: Everything rests upon time

The more things you try, the more likely you will be to find the one that makes your heart sing ~ Reed

Life today offers more options and opportunities than ever before.  Every day new technologies and ideas present themselves, expanding on the ever growing possibilities of life in the modern world.

RQOD_121012_RalphWaldoEmerson

Knowing what avenue to pursue can be daunting task when seeking a new direction in life. The more things you try, the more likely you will be to find the one that makes your heart sing.

Actions worth emulating are more persuasive than words can ever be ~ Reed

Giving advice can backfire, causing more harm than good. It is always better to lead by example; actions worth emulating are more persuasive than words can ever be.

RQOD 120912 TheDhammapada Quote: To straighten the crooked you must first do a harder thing; straighten yourself

What we do today should build on the past and prepare for future, but never overshadow it ~ Reed

We are and always will be the sum of our experiences – they fuel the wisdom to carry us forward into the future with purpose and meaning.  Nothing can take yesterday and tomorrow from us – today though is where we live and more precious than both. What we do today should build on the past and prepare for future, but never overshadow it.

RQOD 120812 Bhaddekaratta Sutta, Quote: do not pursue the past or lose yourself in the future

It is not what we understand that is important, but how we act upon that understanding ~ Reed

From scientist to sage, we are driven by the compulsion to stretch the limits of our understanding – from the world around us to the deepest recesses of our soul.  This need to know has taken us from the discovery of fire, to the moon and beyond.  We have learned to express the love of our maker in the simple act of charity and even seen the infinity possibilities of his love for us in the glorious beauty of our ever expanding and chaotic universe.RQOD 120712 Antoine de Saint-Exupery Quote: The meaning of things lies not in the things themselvesThe search for meaning continues to give rise to many of our greatest achievements as we  recognize that knowledge in itself has no value at all.  It is not what we understand that is important, but how we act upon that understanding.

True and lasting happiness starts as a state of mind that evolves into a state of being ~ Reed

Not everyone is naturally happy.  For every carefree optimist there are just as many committed pessimist.  Many people put the burden on others, or, place blame for lack there of. Too many just plod numbly along through life, never know the joy waiting for them at every turn. The path to happiness is not always an easy one to find, but if you look, there really is a silver lining to every cloud.

RQOD 120612 Dali Lama Quote: Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.

Many things we find distasteful allow for, or, provide access to many of the things we love.  Cleaning – a clean home. Going to work – life’s necessities. Annoying traits in others – friendship & love.

When you set your mind to finding, acknowledging and being grateful for the things that are good in life rather than submitting to the things that are not, you will have set yourself on the path to unlocking one of the great mysteries of life: true and lasting happiness starts as a state of mind that evolves into a state of being.

Small accomplishments today will always bring more satisfaction than the unfulfilled possibilities of tomorrow ~ Reed

Dreaming of and planning for big ideas that will change your life or the world around you, can, if allowed, become all consuming to such an extent that goals and accomplishment are never realized.  While planning has its advantages, getting lost in the details is easy to do.

RQOD_120512_PeterMarshall

It’s important to remember that no matter how much you plan for, the unexpected is a powerful factor and many times, a source of great inspiration.  Keep the big goal in focus and break it down to individual tasks. Small accomplishments today will always bring more satisfaction than the unfulfilled possibilities of tomorrow.

Dreaming is just a step away from the act of creation ~ Reed

One of my favorite quotes of all time comes from A Stranger In A Strange Land by Robert A. Heinlein, “thou art god.” It sums up so much of my philosophical, spiritual and religious views on life. I can debate the wisdom of the concept from numerous angles for hours, and when ever I feel like I’m not making headway on a project, these three little words are just the boost of energy I need to realize my dreams.

RQOD WaltDisney Quote: if you can dream it, you can do it

So much of what we enjoy in the modern world today started as someone’s dream – just as I believe we at one time were but the dream of our maker. In that sense we are all gods and carry that spark within ourselves – the power to imagine, to dream of something that does not exist anywhere else but in our thoughts.  Dreaming is just a step way from the act of creation.

Perfection can be found in everything you do; if not in outcome, than in the perfect lesson you take away from it ~ Reed

Limiting your efforts to a narrow gauge by which you measure success is never a good idea.  Sadly, even our best efforts don’t always end with the best of results.  For many over-achievers, like myself, this can be demoralizing and at times even lead to paralyzing fear and stagnation.

RQOD 120312 Harriet Braiker Quote: Striving for excellence motivates you; striving for perfection is demoralizing.

For the perfectionists among us, take heart: perfection can be found in everything you do; if not in outcome, than in the perfect lesson you take away from it.

Recognizing our own self-worth is like looking at a light in the fog – you know the light is there and can see it’s reflection, but if you look directly at it your blinded to everything~ Reed

One of my favorite songs of all time is Man In The Mirror by the late Michael Jackson.   The poetry of it is beautiful and heart-wrenching: poignant to such a degree that it rarely fails to touch any listener on a very personal level.

RQOD_120212_MalcomStevensonForbes

Looking in that mirror though, beyond those masks that we wear for the world, and, at times even fool ourselves with is not something that comes easy.  Recognizing our own self-worth is like looking at a light in the fog – you know the light is there and can see it’s reflection, but if you look directly at it your blinded to everything.

The only impossibilities in life are those that we fail to strive for ~ Reed

I am a firm believer in the impossible – I see it all around me, in nature and people.  Nothing spurs me into action faster than someone trying to rain on my parade by telling me what I’m after is impossible.

Everything and anything is possible in life, all it takes is belief that something can be done and you are just the person to accomplish it. The only impossibilities in life are those we fail to strive for.
